To start with you need a strategy, just stumbling blindly into Social Media to promote your business can do more harm than good so it’s important that you plan your campaign first.

  • Is there a section of the market which would support my product or service?
  • What is the most cost effective way to interact with this section with the message that my product or service is different?

The next step is to choose the right Social Media Platform for your business. Not all platforms are right for all business so think carefully about your strategy and what it is you have to sell. For example Pinterest may be the platform for you if you have beautiful images of products or you sell houses or you are a photographer. A Facebook campaign could work for you if you are a restaurant or hotel with events to advertise. A Twitter campaign is unlikely to work if your target market is people over the age of 60. There is a platform out there for everyone and multiple platforms can also work well for some businesses, choose wisely though because if you don’t it could be, at best, a waste of time or, at worst, a costly exercise.
