Secrets of SMM (Social Media Marketing)

The internet has changed the way we do business most businesses are still trying to work out how to use it effectively. If you use Social Media and the internet effectively it can boost your business and spread your reputation worldwide faster than any other medium. Used incorrectly it can damage your reputation equally as fast. Here are some tried and tested methods to manage your SMM (Social Media Marketing) campaign.

To start with you need a strategy, just stumbling blindly into Social Media to promote your business can do more harm than good so it’s important that you plan your campaign first.

Ask yourself these questions:

  • Why would a prospective customer buy my product or service rather than a competitor’s?
  • Is there a section of the market which would support my product or service?
  • What is the most cost effective way to interact with this section with the message that my product or service is different?

An effective Social Media Marketing campaign can be the answer, if you do your research regarding your target customer base, your online competition and the best way to showcase your product or service you are then ready to launch your campaign.

The next step is to choose the right Social Media Platform for your business. Not all platforms are right for all business so think carefully about your strategy and what it is you have to sell. For example Pinterest may be the platform for you if you have beautiful images of products or you sell houses or you are a photographer. A Facebook campaign could work for you if you are a restaurant or hotel with events to advertise. A Twitter campaign is unlikely to work if your target market is people over the age of 60. There is a platform out there for everyone and multiple platforms can also work well for some businesses, choose wisely though because if you don’t it could be, at best, a waste of time or, at worst, a costly exercise.
