Why is nobody visiting my website?
Starting an online shop is a genuinely interesting way to build a business, and e-commerce sales have grown remarkably over the past few years. What happens far too often, though, is that someone launches their shop and then sits back waiting for the visitors to arrive.
Without proper search optimisation, Google has no reason to crawl your shop and no reason to show it to anyone. Most people end up frustrated without ever understanding why the traffic never came. Here are the usual culprits.
1. A poor browsing experience
The design of an online shop does most of the work of conveying safety and trust. If your site fails to send that signal, the few visitors who do arrive will not come back. Get the design and the navigation right and sales follow gradually.
2. A weak content strategy
Organic search is the main source of traffic for almost any website. If your pages contain very little text, Google has nothing to work with and will not move you up the rankings. Article titles need to be appealing and to contain the terms your sector actually uses, so search engines understand what the page is about.
3. Publishing too rarely
Improving your rankings requires your site to be updated regularly. A page that has not changed in two years sends a clear signal, and it is not a good one. Consistency matters more than volume.
4. No links pointing to you
Links from other sites remain one of the strongest signals of authority. They cannot be bought credibly, but they can be earned by publishing something worth citing.
5. Not measuring anything
Without analytics you are guessing. You need to know which pages bring people in, where they leave, and which of them lead to a sale. Everything else is opinion.
6. Expecting it to happen quickly
Search optimisation compounds over months, not days. The businesses that succeed are the ones that keep going past the point where nothing appears to be happening.
