Organic ranking through quality content
We have talked several times about the importance of a good search campaign for an online business. But beyond the paid advertising Google offers, creating quality content has become the key to ranking organically.
Panda and Penguin, Google's earlier algorithm changes, sharpened its filter in favour of higher-quality content. The arrival of Hummingbird reinforced the same idea: generating quality content is what drives organic ranking, the kind that comes from optimising your site rather than from paying for advertising.
Build a place to publish
Beyond offering a product or a service, a good way to reach current and potential customers is to add a blog, news or information section to your site, giving you somewhere to publish quality content tied to your sector.
Choose the terms deliberately
Pick the keywords connected to your business carefully, after proper analysis. The aim is not to find the terms with the most searches, but the ones where the search intent matches what you actually sell.
What quality means in practice
- It answers the question completely. A visitor who has to open three other results was not served.
- It is original. Rewriting what three competitors already published gives Google no reason to prefer you.
- It is specific. General advice ranks nowhere. Concrete detail, examples and numbers rank.
- It gets updated. An article revised each year outranks one written once and abandoned.
The point that survives every algorithm change
Every major update over the past decade has pushed in the same direction: rewarding pages that genuinely satisfy the person who searched. Optimising for that is the only strategy that has never needed rewriting.
