Shopping online – customers prefer online stores and marketplaces

Consumers prefer to shop online according to an infographic by Lab42, which shows 66% of people prefer to shop online than in a physical store. The most attractive features of online stores include saving time, better offers, and greater product choice.

Shop Online

The figures show an increasing worldwide trend where consumers are shopping online for convenience and to save money. Some of the most interesting highlights include:

  • 73% of people do shopping online
  • 66% prefer to shop online than in-store
  • 4 out of 5 shop online for a broader selection
  • 7 out of 10 shop online for better sales and promotion
  • 2 out of 3 shop online because it is cheaper

The speed of service is also a key factor for consumers who shop online, and although they want good customer service, they prefer not to use the phone to get it.

  • 41% prefer to contact customer service by email
  • 27% via live chat
  • Only 25% via a phone call

To increase online sales, it is important to include reviews in your online store design, because more consumers were persuaded by positive reviews than by the sellers description. Encouraging buyers to leave reviews, and providing great customer service by email so the reviews are positive, will have a positive impact on your sales.

It is essential to provide your customers with a way to shop online if you provide services, sell just a few products, or have thousands of products available.  Talk to SHOUT!
